Mega-awesome third studio disc by this bad-ass blues/rock axeripper from California that lands down hard from start to finish as his finest/strongest musical effort to date. Includes 14 tracks (63 mins.) of way-kool, powerful, hi-octane, top-shelf, killer, heavy guitar blues/rockin' power trio riffage that will definitely rock your damn blues away.

Dirty Dave Osti is an amazing, dynamic, blues-based, retro-fied, guitar rocker who takes his guitar rite over the edge with an awesome display of blues/rock fretboard fury. Brother Osti teaches us a thing or two about glorious "six string redemption" on his killer new disc that is a true testament that rock n' roll ain't dead. It's no secret that Guitar Rock is our Religion at Grooveyard Records and Dirty Dave Osti is a Righteous Hard Rockin' Guitar-Slingin' Preacher Man on an electrified Mission to Keep the Rock alive on the incredible and essential "Shakedown On Salvation Street".

Authentic. It's a word you hear and read on a regular basis, yet often when you listen to what it pertains to, well that's a different matter. So it is advisedly, yet with confidence that I give you a Shakedown On Salvation Street from Dirty Dave Osti; an Authentic (with a capital A) Heavy Blues Rock album from the 70s (well 2013, but if this was blasted out in 1976 it wouldn't be one jot out of place – other than the in your face production of course). Dirty Dave knows how to groove and he knows how to Rock. However vitally, he knows how to Rooooowwwwl, for this is Rock that Rolls with a confident, dirty, swagger and doesn't feel the need to apologise for its bullishness.

The one thing that did and still does surprise me here is that Dirty Dave is a one man writing and performing band, nailing the drums, riffs, bass lines and vocals, as well as composing the twelve originals that sit deservedly against two excellent cover versions (a suitably grinding "Certified Blues" (ZZ Top) and a cleverly Americanised "Fairies Wear Boots" (Black Sabbath)). The surprise coming from the fact that not only is DDO talented enough to infuse the drumming with power and life, the guitars with grit and purpose, the bass with oomph and bounce and the vocals with gruff accuracy and whiskey soaked character, but that it all sounds so much like a band. And a band that jams and grooves for hours in the studio at that. Very clever indeed.

Fourteen tracks in total is maybe just a mite long (for almost any album), yet to be fair to the Dirty one, I can't decide which I'd have dropped, so why should he? "In The Summertime" boldly builds on power crashes and pinging cymbals, the vocals biting your heels the whole way, "Ocean Girl" is all staccato guitars and a bass line to die for, the chorus pulsating on a groove so thick you could get lost in it for a week! "Cold World" adds a slightly more commercial sheen, the bass again setting the scene, the guitars slamming everything into gear, while "Shakedown" gets down and (Dave) dirty, Osti's vocals just about scraping the skin from your face as they slice and dice all in their path.

Put simply, Dirty Dave Osti is Blues Rock from yesterday that's perfect for today. If you're looking for an album brimming with rifftastic intent and grooves galore, get yourselves down to the Shakedown On Salvation Street.

Score: 4 out of 5 stars

DIRTY DAVE OSTI’s "SHAKEDOWN ON SALVATION STREET" is blues-rock at its best. The axe-master offers up a veritable guitar feast, with main courses and side-dishes that will leave you satisfied and yet begging for more. His hard-hitting style is reminiscent of the masters of old -- everyone from Hendrix to the Allman Brothers. He's fast and furious, and yet tasteful and melodic -- just like a guitar hero should be. Overall, his music is heavy and loud -- so turn it up! -- and reaches deep into your soul. If you want emotion, feeling and enhanced virtuosity, Guitar god Dirty Dave will not disappoint!

"Shakedown on Salvation Street" is Dirty Dave Osti's third studio album for Grooveyard Records since they signed him in 2010. In 2010 there was "Voodoo Guitar" and then "Burning Down The Dirtshack" in 2011.

Dave is already an old hand in the music business. He has been a professional musician and songwriter since 1975. The one man rock machine, as Dave likes to call himself, plays drums, bass and guitar on this album and of course he takes the vocals on his behalf. Moreover Osti wrote twelve of the fourteen songs on this album. Anyone familiar with the music of Dirty Dave Osti knows to expect very strong blues or rock with screaming guitars. On this new album is no different. The first song "Reach For The Sky" is a prime example of the music Dave Osti stands for. A very sturdy and tight rhythm guitar that stands screaming.

And one certainly cannot doubt his guitar playing. This guitar fireworks game will take more than an hour. Also on the drums, he's a pretty good, but listen to "We Got The Right To Roll". The same ingredients in "Ocean Girl" with a clever piece where the bass is dominant but then again those bright screaming guitar that takes center stage. Dave Osti's fierce style of guitar playing is reminiscent of the old masters such as Hendrix. Dave is an executioner on his instruments and his music is always melodic. It is difficult to review because the songs course together and are repeated but quite related. But the album does not get boring, you look again and again how the guitar will sound in the next issue.

In "Pull The Trigger On Your Love" the foot is off the accelerator just to later press harder on "Stun Gun". Dave pulls out all the stops here. Pretty solid distorted guitar sounds spoil us in "Blame It On The Times". More than 40 years old is "Certified Blues". It is one of two songs not written by Dave. The older ones among us will certainly know this song in the original version of ZZ Top. It is still a catchy tune. The guitar sounds fierce and menacing in the beginning of "Lean Into The Wind". The rhythm section is solid and tight but rather monotonous, this is something that is more prevalent in the songs of Dave Osti. Fortunately, his guitar playing continues to fascinate the whole song.

It seems Dave Osti kept the best for last on the disc, since I personally find the strongest songs on the album. Starting with the best track on the CD, namely the title song "Shakedown On Salvation Street". "Old Man Blue" and "In The Summertime" may have charm. The pattern is always the same, so Dave can always give a little twist to the songs that still retains that song that refreshing touch. The capper "Fairies Wear Boots" is the other song that Dave has not written himself, but it is close to his own songs. For lovers of the music of Dirty Dave Osti, the album "Shakedown On Salvation Street" is certainly another asset because this CD is an extension of his earlier work. Pure heavy rock of one man rock machine Dave Osti.
