Awesome debut studio disc by this killer blues/rock axeslinger from Nashville featuring 10 tracks of outstanding, dynamic, soul-powered, blues-based six string guitar rock mojo that hits hard & delivers real rock n' roll for your soul with a touch of southern rock charm. J. Curly Speegle is a true seasoned veteran of the instrument, a legit "old-school" guitar cat who speaks the same musical language as the greats, complete with strong memorable songs & excellent soulful vocals to match. An essential bad-ass guitar rocker that is highly recommended to fans of Warren Haynes, Joe Bonamassa & Robin Trower.

· REVIEWS ·

It is impossible not to like this music. The great thing about this album is the not only brilliant musicianship or great songs but also the diverse influences that can be detected, when listening and reflect some of the greatest and most revered trends and traditions of American rock. Although Speegle’s music sounds current and fresh as anything, there is no escaping from picking up the influences of some of the best of the American rock scene of the 1970s and 1980s. That should not come as a surprise, Speegle, the man and his music, is rooted in that period and on this album we can hear the echo of some past (and still present) greats of American mainstream rock, the likes of Doobie Brothers (Johnston’s and McDonald’s) among others. Speegle also treads funkier waters on this album and "Baby Goodbye" and "Damn Shame" are reminiscent of some of the towering funk/soul acts of the period and that still cast their long shadow over modern music, Isley Brothers and Rufus. On "Pearls" he resorts to harder and grungier riffage which sounds as taken from the Soundgarden catalogue. And then, on "Spirit", he travels further back in time paying tribute to the early pioneers who brought us sixties psychedelia, a great song performed with some wonderful Hendrixian overtones. In a career spanning decades Speegle has seen some great artists come and go (played with or shared the stage with many of them) and he has seen trends and fads rise and wane. These are his influences, the ingredient in his music. The years have been kind and left him with some great material and ideas that are beautifully woven together to create something new. But make no mistake; while past influences can be heard on his album there is no nostalgia here, no soppy cherishing of yesterday’s heroes. This music is current as modern pop and yet timeless as classic rock. Speegle is an excellent axeman, measured in his approach and style and disciplined by the learnings of a long career and years of experience. He plays his guitar perfectly to the songs, fully understanding and respecting their confines, avoiding overplaying and showing off. His mastery shines through nonetheless and the various influences that can be heard in his songs demand versatility and imagination in the way he handles his guitar. He is supported by a band of top class musicians who understand the man and his music perfectly and come together to deliver what by any measure is bound to become a classic among those who cherish the finest American rock has brought us.
