On their self-titled debut disc, KAMCHATKA (an incredibly kool power trio riff machine from Sweden) deliver an awesome set (14 trax - 59 mins.) of heavy duty, get-down bluesy, cycodelic, authentic, retro-70s heavy guitar power trio riffage that is unbelievably killer. KAMCHATKA is brain-damaing beyond belief and the REAL deal when it comes down to outstanding killer power trio rock. KAMCHATKA features three amazing players in the form of Thomas Andersson on guitar & vocals, Rojer Ojersson on bass & vocals and Tobias Strandvik on drums. The band work together as a whole musical unit combining guitar-melting solos, slicked-up pseudo-Hendrix grooves with an incredibly powerful tight rhythm section to create a sound that is pure, convincing and all their own. Hitting hard with a fantastic, hard driving, raw, blistering, all-out musical assault and sounding like they landed from 1973, KAMCHATKA have legitimately created an authentic, classic retro-70s heavy guitar power trio vibe.

Thomas Andersson is an amazing gifted bluesy axeripper who makes a powerful musical statement on the guitar. His playing is right up there with the best of them. Serious heavy guitar freaks that are in tune with the Grooveyard know that we are heavily into and support outstanding Swedish axemasters like Clas Yngstrom (SKY HIGH), Emil Fredholm & Christian Neppenstrom of PLANKTON, Thomas Larsson, Janne Stark, etc. Thomas Andersson of KAMCHATKA is no exception and his killer guitarwork is in the same league as those awesome players. They take the guitar seriously in Sweden and stick to their guns (musical roots) without following the latest fads & musical trends. Swedish axerippers are all about the guitar and they know what time of day it is when it comes down to REAL guitar playing. There must be something in the water over there in Sweden!

The KAMCHATKA disc is HIGHLY recommeded to fans of HENDRIX (THE MAN!), TROWER, FRANK MARINO & MAHOGANY RUSH, CREAM, MOUNTAIN, JOHNNY WINTER, CACTUS, STRAY DOG, CAPTAIN BEYOND, BUDGIE and new school power trio players like ERIC GALES, WARREN HAYNES (GOV'T MULE) and FIREBIRD, to name a few. Imagine if FRANK MARINO & TROWER jammed with HENDRIX & CREAM in MAHOGANY RUSH- LAND and you start to get the musical picture. Kamchatka are the REAL deal when it comes down to seventies guitar god rock and their awesome live in the studio version of "I Love Everybody" by JOHNNY WINTER is worth the price of admission alone and will make a true believer out of you.

The bottom line is that KAMCHATKA are the real deal when it comes down to classic, outstanding bluesy heavy guitar power trio rock and if you dig this super- sonic way-kool style of music, then look no further than the mega-awesome debut disc by KAMCHATKA. Exclusively released on GROOVEYARD RECORDS, a new label dedicated to outstanding TOTAL GUITAR music from around the world.

"Kamchatka - the name conjures up visions of rugged vistas - raw and strangely alien yet beautiful landscapes. Well, if there was ever a band that sounded like their name, you just found it. These guys take their instruments and fearlessly go off into uncharted musical territory, and like musical crusaders, they bring their audio discoveries back from the abyss to share with the less adventurous. This stuff is RAW...barely contained...crackling with energy and dripping with sweat. These guys prove once and for all that the power trio is alive and well, kicking major ass on every cut, combining vicious grooves, precision timing and sheer force. Classic tones from guitarist Thomas Andersson propel this juggernaut. Unlike other players who end up beholden to their effects, Andersson uses them like weapons, creating a totally stylized Hendrixian bluesy, trippy, greasy and freaky psychofunkedelicized sonic assault with tons of feel and chops to spare. The rhythm section is like a nitro-fueld bulldozer and tight as a vault, creating the launching pad for Andersson's stratospheric excursions. These guys MEAN it - nothing about their music is contrived or calculated. It's the real item, folks. This is one trip you can't afford to miss. Fans of late 60s - early 70s heavy guitar riffage will freak out when they crank this one up. You'll think you just stepped out of the Wayback machine! Don't believe me? That's OK. It just means you haven't heard Kamchatka's debut CD yet. What the hell are you waiting for?"

This is our first submission from Rochester, NY-based Grooveyard Records and what a powerhouse it is. Kamchatka take their name from the volcanically active Russian peninsula that divides the Okhotsk and the Bering Sea, and on first listen you'd swear you'd unearthed an early '70s Robin Trower classic. The Swedish trio have not only perfected gut-wrenching blues-guitar riffs that erupt spontaneously, but back them up with one of the heaviest rhythm sections of the decade. Breaking it down into equal parts, we start with singer/guitarist Thomas Andersson, a student of all things graceful and fluid in blues-soaked guitar. Unafraid to amp up a Hendrix chord progression as in "Out Of My Way," or shoot for a more Stevie Ray Vaughan drive in "No," Andersson caresses each note – one at a time and lives through its distinctive sound. Then there's the voice; guttural and gruff, but smooth like Irish whiskey. Bassist, Rojer Ojersson adds his voice both figuratively and physically in the Sabbathy "Squirm," the massively heavy "Mnemosyne Waltz" and the straight ahead Stoner Rock, "Sing Along Song." His interplay and dynamic tension roams from intricate Jazz jams to plodding, lumbering footsteps in the wake of Sir Lord Baltimore or live Mountain. "Seed" is his shining moment as he gallops around a Memphis groove giving lots of room for Andersson and drummer Tobias Strandvik to build a skull-crushing monster. Raw, frantic and dense is the only way to describe Strandvik's drumming. From the southern-fried Johnny Winter cover "I Love Everybody" and subtle frills of "Daddy Says" to the all out shed of "Spacegirl Blues," Strandvik makes his presence known. He locks in with Ojersson's bass giving the songs a concrete backbone that never gets lost in Andersson's supernatural playing. The collection runs 14 tracks of hard-hitting, tasteful guitar rock and deserves to sit beside the greats of your vinyl collection.

One thing about the Grooveyard label: everything that comes out on its imprint features as much top-notch, brain-frying lead guitar as you could possibly handle and this eponymous effort by KAMCHATKA is no exception. A power trio in the best old-school sense, these Swedes are led by the soul-searing guitar work of one Thomas Junear Andersson, who also shares vocal duties with bassist Roger Ojersson. (Tobias Strandvik rounds things out on drums). And, let me tell you something about this Andersson cat.. he's not shy about his 6-string ability. Hell, wrap your ears around opener "Out Of My Way," "Incognito" or the nicely-chosen Johnny Winter cover, "I Love Everybody." In this case, it could just as well be called "I Love Tons Of Nasty Lead Guitar!" Here's a player that takes the bluesy hard rock of the '70s & makes it his own, fresh & exciting. Still, my faves are the crushers, "Mnemostyne Waltz" & "Mixed Emotions." Lovers of stuff like "Bridge Of Sighs," Poobah & Leslie West will find a new hero burned in electric soul all over these. Another maximum winner from the Grooveyard.

Juicy and judicious, with youthful emotion and seasoned maturity, Kamchatka embodies the paradoxes of life and spills them into your ears. This is a band that shakes you up with hard-edged virtuosity and transforms your consciousness with superlative musicianship.
