HUMBLE COLOSSUS, the highly anticipated second c.d. from PLANKTON (an incredibly talented / gifted dual instrumental guitar band from Sweden), features 10 brilliant trax of outstanding, mind-blowing, CLASSIC, diverse, retro-70s, bluesy heavy guitar compositions of epic proportions. This is timeless "PURE HEAVY GUITAR BEAUTY" of the highest order, full of depth, power, maturity and scope that knows no limits or boundaries.

PLANKTON features two phenomenal guitarists named EMIL FREDHOLM and CHRISTIAN NEPPENSTROM, both unbelievably talented stratmasters in their own right. Both guitarists display killer chops (complete with tons of soul and feel), fabulous technique, gorgeous melodies, lush tones and deep harmonic sophistication delivered through the classic strat / marshall line-up complete with a miriad of authentic, vintage stomp boxes used to great effect. Both guitarists are incredible world-class players who have found their own original voices on their instruments and have achieved true heavy guitar greatness on HUMBLE COLOSSUS. PLANKTON also features an absolutely killer powerhouse rhythm section in the form of TOMAS THORBERG on bass, SEBASTIAN SIPPOLA on drums and LARS NORMALM on percussion. Brother LARS adds a whole new dimension to the PLANKTON sound with his groovy percussion work). These three talented cats who play an integral part of the PLANKTON sound, lay down incredible, thick, solid grooves upon which brothers EMIL & CHRISTIAN work their deep heavy guitar riffage. There is an astounding, dynamic musical interplay between all 5 PLANKTON brothers with a strong emphasis on memorable / standout compositions, which is a rarity amongst most instrumental guitar music. Not content to be known as just a "guitar band", all 5 members work together as a whole to achieve their musical goals. The compositional skills of PLANKTON are stunning to say the least and definitely set them apart from the rest. There is a real warmth and sense of pleasure pouring out of the grooves that will fully satisfy even the most seasoned music lovers and serious heavy guitar freaks. HUMBLE COLOSSUS is a REAL guitar lovers dream and the album's production and mix are authentic to their style and are first class throughout.

In the fine tradition of staying true to themselves and at the same time to their deep, bluesy, hendrixy retro-70s "EARTH BLUES FUSION" heavy guitar roots (inspirations & influences), HUMBLE COLOSSUS is HIGHLY recommended to fans of HENDRIX (long live the musical spirit of JIMI), ROBIN TROWER, FRANK MARINO, ULI JON ROTH, MICHAEL SCHENKER, LESLIE WEST & MOUNTAIN, CREAM, TOMMY BOLIN, JEFF BECK, ERIC JOHNSON, STEVE MORSE, GREG KOCH, MICHAEL LANDAU, WARREN HAYNES & GOV'T MULE, WISHBONE ASH, and all of the classic guitar greats.

For those of you who tuned in and are familiar with the phenomenal debut disc by PLANKTON (a veritable work of outstanding TOTAL GUITAR art) released a few years back on GROOVEYARD RECORDS, new and old fans alike will be completely blown away and mesmerized by the sheer brilliance and passionate sophistication found on their latest "musical journey" known as HUMBLE COLOSSUS.

This is the RE:MASTER version of "Humble Colossus" which was carefully done by the band with a lot of love and care. This new version has a more intense, deep, vibrant "sonic delivery" than the first pressing and is sure to satisfy the most die-hard hard-core Plankton freak worldwide. Dig in deep and smell the Plankton.

PLANKTON has fully achieved "musical euphoria" on HUMBLE COLOSSUS.

Where as plankton may be nourishment for sea faring behemoths, the band Plankton provide savory nourishment for the soul with their weighty brand of instrumental axe-slaughts. The new recording, "Humble Colossus", is an earthy, girthy set that conjures up images of a supergroup where the vintage Allman Brothers lineup is modified by two Hendrixian flavored strat potentates on twin leads replacing Duane and Dickey and John Bonham replacing Butch Trucks, and the instrumental compositions are no-holds-barred. Never degenerating into a heavy-handed, shred-fest, this tasty collection of compositions also serves as a textbook on Hendrixian guitar tones, and the mighty drum sounds may cause the weak to become incontinent. So take... and eat...

Following in the incomparable tradition of their first CD, Plankton again delivers an interesting and exciting blend of virtuosity and emotional music. Imagine Hendrix joining Mountain as a second guitarist and teaching Leslie a thing or two; and then imagine this band, with two of the world's best Blues-Rock players, attempting to do more complex music -- a sort of intricate and tightly-woven tapestry of heavy sounds capped off with feeling unlike the world has ever heard. This is the music of the band known as Plankton. Uni-vibe, wah-wah, Wes's use of octaves, and Roger Mayer's Octavia and Fuzz-Face all join hands to create a reincarnated Hendrix (times two!) with a new buzz for contemporary listeners. This is a must for all guitar music fans!

Finally a new Plankton-disc! Have they lived up to my expectations? Nope... I'd say they have actually exceeded them! Once I got this CD into my player it was firmly stuck there! A blazing 70s groove and sound, mixed with some fusion-oriented pasages and all of it adorned with the outstanding guitar-playing of Fredholm and Neppenstrom. They have also made a cover of an old Swedish jazz-classic written by the father of brothers Jens and Anders Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen, Stratovarius, Hammerfall etc), called "Visa fran Utanmyra" (Song from Utanmyra). In Plankton's version it goes from Johansson-original to Hendrix on acid. A killer trip! If I could only bring one album to my desert island, this would be it!
