This album marks the end of an era for a little known band from Greece called Hush’n’Rush and the beginning of the same outfit, this time markedly better known as Super Vintage. Hush’n’Rush had a brief history but an impressive output of four albums and EPs on the promotional website, Bandcamp. This album, Rock’n’Roll for Your Soul, is a collection of 20 songs from their Bandcamp period released as their first Grooveyard album. The band may be young but there is no fumbling here, no experiments, no trying of this or that style, sounds or arrangements. These are professional talents, learned and mature in their approach and have set it all down right from the start. There are many things to say about this great album and it is hard to know where to begin. Let’s start with what strikes me most, the songwriting. Super Vintage is Stavros Papadopoulos’s project, first and foremost. All songs are written, arranged and recorded by him. It won’t escape anyone who listens to this album what an exceptional talent he is. His songs, perhaps best described as being in the good and honorable tradition of Southern Rock, are superbly crafted around killer riffs which he seems to have in great abundance. Years and decades of great music and musicians has provided him with a wealth of ideas to fuse together in new and original compositions. “Until Tomorrow”, a song I first heard on a Classic Rock freebie and first my introduction to the band makes the point; hard and heavy old skool riffage, funked up as by Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters of the 1970s, with a guitar break in the middle reminiscent of any of the jazz/rock guitar greats. All driven home by a group of outstanding musicians that gel together as if they had played together for a lifetime. And if this sounds promising then there is more to look forward to because that’s how the rest of the album goes. Every seat in this four-piece group is taken by outstandingly talented musicians but perhaps most prominently Stavros Papadopoulos himself. His lead guitar reflects the teachings of the great grandmasters of the classic rock guitar, and they can all be heard in his playing; Alvin’s flash and ferocity, Rory’s honesty and Blackmore’s attitude (thankfully the glam and gimmicks of the spandex, hairdo and lipgloss years of the 1980s are not echoed in Stavros’s playing – commercialized corporate rock is not what Super Vintage is about!). The band’s music is classic rock in the best and truest meaning of the term; firmly rooted in the great music of the late-1960 and 1970s but sounding fresh, original and exciting as these superbly talented musicians fuse together later influences to create something new and urgent, something that honours and cherishes the pioneering work of past heroes but yet resonates with current times. Great traditions continue to stay with us as endless source for talented artists to create great and timeless music – thanks to bands like Super Vintage the torch keeps carried on.

Beginning life as a Greek covers band, Hush N' Rush (great name for a covers band!) have changed their moniker to Super Vintage (a much better name for a real band) and teamed up with the kings of the groove, Grooveyard Records. Rock N' Roll For Your Soul is a twenty track dip into the band's past, their four releases of original material under the Hn'R name plundered to stunning effect, on what is a superb introduction to a band who have gone unheard too long.

With nary an accent in sight, Stavros Papadopoulos is the first shock, his gritty, gravely voice the archetypal focal point for the bluesy, Southern rock this band have mastered. His guitar work is also sparklingly authentic, and alongside Panagiotis Zabourlis the pair whip up all manner of earth rocking storms. Fierce funky funsters abound as great-time grooves attack from all sides and a bluesy strut swaggers into view, before meting out hefty blows of rock. Seriously a band from Greece have absolutely no rhyme or reason to be this damn legit, or down right impressive. Something the mid paced thump of "Until Tomorrow", the insistently sassy "Free Me", or proud strut of "Water In A Foreign Land" undoubtedly are.

Now, the Grooveyard may be all about the guitar (and rightly so!) however there's no denying that the Super Vintage rhythm section are right at the heart of what makes this collection quite as intoxicating as it is. Whether they're driving a song on with power and verve, setting the tempo by boiling and bubbling with intent, or nestling neatly behind the beat to keep the vibe smooth and easy, bassist Panos Karathanasis and drummer Lazaros Simitsis really are integral to the success of this excellent album.

The three closing 'bonus tracks' are all acoustic, and oddly they reveal a slightly more 80s outlook than the classic 70s style the main body of songs present. However, as the old adage goes, if a song stands up in a stripped back setting where all its bells and whistles have been removed, then undeniably it's a good song; something "Get Away", "Ball And Chain" and "Born Again" prove with an assured ease.

The beginning of what looks to be a long lasting relationship between band and label, Rock N' Roll For Your Soul isn't just aptly named, it also prepares the way for an all new Super Vintage album, Salvation Road. Crucially it's every bit as good as this intoxicating early 'best of'.

If you like blues infused rock music, you will love & enjoy Super Vintage's 'Rock N Roll For Your Soul'. Based in Greece, the band was formerly known as Hush 'N Rush and is comprised of Stavros Papadopoulos (Vocals, Lead & Rhythm Guitar), Panagiotis Zabourlis (Lead & Rhythm Guitar), Panos Karathanasis (Bass) and Lazaros Simitsis (Drums). The vocals are clean yet raspy, the guitars heavy yet melodic. Paying homage to some of the great rock bands without being pretentious one bit. I hear everything from Warren Haynes and Doyle Bramhall in Stavros Papadopoulos' vocals, hints of Gov't Mule in the rhythm section and great guitar riffs that would make Gary Rossington and Rickey Medlocke smile! This album rocks front to back. Loaded with tons of blues rock swagger and takes no prisoners. From the rocking "Sing Me A Rockin' Song" to the attitude and swagger of tracks like "Heart N' Soul", " Wise Mama", "Ship Never Sailed" and "Don't Lay Down". While tracks like "Until Tomorrow", "Happy N' Lazy", "Salvation", "Get Away" and "Ball And Chain" show off their writing talents. The synergy of this band is air tight. 'Rock N' Roll For Your Soul' from Super Vintage is one hot, smoking, rocking recording that needs to be in everyone's collection. - Highly Recommended.

Their mission: "Keeping CLASSIC ROCK ALIVE! "

Super Vintage is a four-piece rock band from the city of Kavala, NE Greece in the Aegean Sea. The band was founded in 2012 under the name Hush 'N Rush and began as a 70s hard rock cover band. The frontman, singer-songwriter / guitarist and producer, Stavros Papadopoulos, has been writing more hard rock songs that he records in his Free Rock Recording Studio. The other band members are Panagiotis Zabourlis (guitar), Lazaros Simitsis (drums, percussion) and Panos Karathanasis (bass). In 2014 Giorgos Filopelou replaced bassist Karathanasis. From 2013 they recorded their first albums: "Kick Over The Traces" (2013), "Dogs 'N Vultures" (2014), "Tales Never Told " (2014) and " Welcome To The Slum" (2014). In 2015 the band signed with the US label Grooveyard Records and changed their name to Super Vintage. A new label, a new name and with it two new albums: "Rock 'N Roll For Your Soul" and "Salvation Road"!

"Rock 'N Roll For Your Soul" is an album with no less than twenty original Stravos Papoudopoulos' numbers. Papoudopoulos wrote the songs not recently, but rather in his Hush 'N Rush period (2012-2014). He was also the producer / mixer of the songs that were previously recorded in his home studio in Kavala. The album is a compilation uniting the four previous Hush 'N Rush albums. Tracks 1-8 are from "Welcome To The Slum" (2014), 9-11 are from "Dogs 'N Vultures" (2014), tracks 12-17 are from "Kick Over The Traces " (2013) and, finally, bonus tracks 18-20 are from their "Tales Never Told" (2014) album.

The twenty "Rock 'N Roll For Your Soul" tracks are guitar hard rock songs with a bluesy ground that sound like hard rock "by definition" should sound. Raw, right on, melodic and with lots of "frills" (read "room for secure repetitive riffs") for the guitars of Stravos Papoudopoulos and Panagiotis Zabourlis. Papoudopoulos' singing is excellent and makes hard rock "experts" think of other illustrious predecessors. Opener "Sing Me A Rockin' Song" is rock solid and this continues with songs like "Heart N' Soul," "Wise Mama" and "Water In A Foreign Land" (to name a few random numbers). Tracks like "Until Tomorrow", "Happy N' Lazy", "Salvation", "Get Away" and "Ball And Chain" are (in this genre) examples of Papoudopoulos' songwriting talents. The good correlation between the foursome is palpable and makes the "Rock N' Roll For Your Soul" a fine album and hard rock fans will surely be satisfied already as "rock mission accomplished!"

There are those who believe that real hard rock can rise from the dead and, indeed, it has successfully risen from the impressive ruins of ancient Greece with the 'Super Vintage' classic hard rock band in their mission "to keep REAL ROCK ALIVE!" For all true fans of hard rock, Super Vintage is undoubtedly a relief! "CLASSIC ROCK HARD MISSION: Accomplished"
