Here comes more of the same – and that’s great news! Salvation Road, Super Vintage’s second album on the Grooveyard Records label, is a straight continuation of the band’s debut album, Rock N' Roll For Your Soul. That album, a collection of songs from the band’s Bandcamp recordings (see my review of the album), showcased and already mature and confident band with a fully developed sound and style. Just as Rock’n’Roll … was consistent in its high-powered hard rock quality, from the first song to the last, so is Salvation Road consistent with the direction taken by its predecessor. The songs, written by Stavros Papadopoulos, the bands lead guitarist, sound just as fresh and exciting as his compositions on Rock’n’Roll …, a great testament to his remarkable talent as songwriter. I refrain from saying that he is maturing as a songwriter on Salvation Road; he has simply entered the scene fully accomplished and in total command of the form of music he writes and plays. As a musician and songwriter he has spent long hours studying the wealth of music created by the past maestros of rock but he imitates none of them; standing on their shoulders Stavros has developed a style that is entirely his own and which not only makes Super Vintage’s music unique but puts the band up with the greatest of contemporary classic rock acts. His impressive guitar work also stands out on the album. Not many guitarists have mastered a style like his. His skill and technique are astonishing and he stretches the guitar – the sound thick, full-bodied and rootsy – as the song permits, playing on the edge without any pretentions, unafraid of taking risks. That makes perfect! This is only possible with the solid backing of the rest of the band, equally competent on their instruments and fully tuned in on each other. As a band they come together perfectly, the sound is tight and well-balanced. Salvation Road is the perfect second album by delivering on the promise made by the band’s debut and giving us another dose of totally great, high-voltage power rock.

Super Vintage’s ‘Salvation Road’ is yet more guitar music from Stravos Papadopoulos — and that’s a good thing. Totally original, but with a blue-rock base, he and his co-musicians — Zabourlis (guitar), Filoupelou (bass), and Simitsis (drums) — hit it out of the park. This is a loud, virtuosic music fest that will leave you in a state of wonder. Few musicians could pull this off, but these guys do — big time. If you like your sounds sophisticated, raunchy and emotional, check this out. It reaches out and brings you inside, leaving you begging for more. A must hear for guitar enthusiasts!

Salvation Road is the first full all-new album since the Greek band previously known as Hush N' Rush changed their name to Super Vintage and teamed up with US heavy blues rock specialists, Grooveyard Records. However with the utterly spanking compilation, Rock N' Roll For Your Soul, which rounds up the Hn'R years released to coincide with this album, really there's no excuse not to get acquainted with this hard hitting band.

One change between the Hush and SV line-ups is in evidence, bassist Giorgos Filopelou joining the fold at the expense of Panos Karathanasis, the latter a previously integral force alongside drummer Lazaros Simitsis. However Filopelou proves a more than able replacement, none of the classy power and force behind the soulful Southern style lost in the reshuffle. Two things are however noticeably different, firstly that the overall vibe is somewhat more considered, a slightly more relaxed, assured feel in evidence as things hit home through a more soulful persuasion. The second slight change may feel initially contradictory, however while the foot has been intentionally, and very slightly, taken off the gas, so the guitar power has been ramped up. This time "Broke" and "Better Days" for example have far more obvious pyrotechnical guitar solos, and while it isn't completely clear whether it's Stavros Papadopoulos or Panagiotis Zabourlis who is making his guitar cry for mercy (it sure ain't receiving any though!) on "Black Crow", the results cause you to gather your jaw from the floor. Something which I'm guessing is the influence of the G-Yard rubbing off on these authentically American rockers from Greece!

Don't think however that either of these slight changes in focus are negatives, the solos, while dextrous and full force, never a distraction or out of place. While the deeper, bluesier feel that's maybe taken some of the pace out of the more out and out rock the band specialised in, simply allows for a more passionate, and if anything, authentic attack. In all honesty you could dig in deep anywhere on this album and mine out a deep bluesy memorable number, "Holy Ground" adding a little extra countrified spice, "Wheels" rolling as hard as its very name suggests, whilst "Funk Yourself" howls and throbs in a way that has your hips grinding inappropriately! And that's not even taking into account the steamrolling groove of "Don't Give A Damn", the sideways stab of Americanised Zeppelin riffs that powers "Wounded Horse", or that Papadopoulos may be one of the best singers in this game.

The list of your favourite bands from Greece may not be that long (if you have one at all). However with Super Vintage delivering a sound that lives up to their name – and then some – be prepared to add them not just to that chart, but also right at the top of the one listing bands capable of busting out prime time heavy, hard hitting blues.

Super Vintage's latest release, 'Salvation Road', finds the band giving us a newer sounding style it has to be admitted that this band is more retro, making you think back to the Seventies, or thereabouts. There is nothing wrong with this, because they give us such a great solid rock sound and we all like a bit of retro at times. The line up for this recording are Stavros Papadopoulos (Vox, Lead & Rhythm Guitar), Panagiotis Zabourlis (Lead & Rhythm Guitar), Giorgos Filoppelou (Bass) and Lazaros Simitsis (Drums). 'Salvation Road' has so much range. It's a statement of what the band sees and is able to capture musically. To coin the old phrase - "All killer no filler". In my view, there isn't bad track on the album. If you like 70s style classic rock with raspy vocals & catchy guitar riffs, this is the album for you. Highlights for me would be, the title track, the foot stomping, "Broke", "Wounded Horse", "Holy Ground", "Seize The Day" and the album closing, "Queen Never Born". A terrific ride of an recording that shows, in complete contrast to the depressing wailings of the trendy indie set, just how joyful and exuberant music can and should be, and how tremendous it can make you feel. Super Vintage have crafted an explosive album filled with steely licks and explosive melodies you'll be playing air guitar to after the first listen. There is something for everyone here. This is definitely music for those who love that good classic sound and enjoy having it blasting out - Highly Recommended

Their mission: "Keeping CLASSIC ROCK ALIVE! "

Super Vintage is a four-piece rock band from the city of Kavala, NE Greece in the Aegean Sea. The band was founded in 2012 under the name Hush 'N Rush and began as a 70s hard rock cover band. The frontman, singer-songwriter / guitarist and producer, Stavros Papadopoulos, has been writing more hard rock songs that he records in his Free Rock Recording Studio. The other band members are Panagiotis Zabourlis (guitar), Lazaros Simitsis (drums, percussion) and Panos Karathanasis (bass). In 2014 Giorgos Filopelou replaced bassist Karathanasis. From 2013 they recorded their first albums: "Kick Over The Traces" (2013), "Dogs 'N Vultures" (2014), "Tales Never Told " (2014) and " Welcome To The Slum" (2014). In 2015 the band signed with the US label Grooveyard Records and changed their name to Super Vintage. A new label, a new name and with it two new albums: "Rock 'N Roll For Your Soul" and "Salvation Road"!

"Salvation Road" is the second album (resurrected from the ashes of Hush N' Rush) Super Vintage released on their new label Grooveyard Records. The line-up (after bassist Panos Karathanasis) has remained the same: Stravos Papoudopoulos (vocals, guitar), Panagiotis Zabourlis (guitar), Lazaros Simitsis (drums, percussion) and new bassist Giorgos Filopelou. They return again with an album with thirteen original Papoudopoulos bluesy hard rock songs. Also, everything happens again according to the rules of classic hard rock, with heavy riffs of two guitars, cool melodies, raw vocals and a groovy, solidly rocking rhythm section. All this in order to fulfill their mission: "To keep REAL hard rock ALIVE." How? With "bad-ass, hard rock n' roll mojo!"

With "Salvation Road" these rocking Greeks strike a new direction. Not only their label, but also their sound and style is newer, so everything sounds more retro. The songs on the new album are very diverse. The songs that stand out are the title track and opener, "Broke," the rocking shuffle "Wounded Horse", the conjuring "Holy Ground," "Seize The Day" and the closing "Queen Never Born". Super Vintage proves with this release, classic rock does not have to be boring. Again: "rock mission accomplished!"

There are those who believe that real hard rock can rise from the dead and, indeed, it has successfully risen from the impressive ruins of ancient Greece with the 'Super Vintage' classic hard rock band in their mission "to keep REAL ROCK ALIVE!" For all true fans of hard rock, Super Vintage is undoubtedly a relief! "CLASSIC ROCK HARD MISSION: Accomplished"

SUPER VINTAGE are a four piece band from Greece, formally known as Hush n’ Rush who consists of Stavros Papadopoulos on Guitar and Vocals, Panagiotis Zabourlis on Guitar, Giorgos Filopelou on Bass and Lazaros Simitsis on Drums. With their latest release “Salvation Road”, even though it has that Classic 70’s Rock style feel to it which is right up my alley, it also comes across as fresh and vibrant, showcasing the talent these four guys actually have as musicians. Stavros has that raspy, raw, emotion filled voice that I love and he also combines perfectly with Panagiotis delivering a powerful twin Guitar sound whilst Giorgos on Bass and Lazaros on Drums also bring it all together to produce that big, full sound. Super Vintage have created a real uplifting album full of great music, well written songs and plenty of melodies that are as catchy as all hell. This is another really good album that I highly recommend you check out.

Got this one right from the Grooveyard and boy am I glad I did...see I love bad ass classic retro 70s hard rockin' stuff with bluesy vocals and dirty stinging razor sharp guitar licks with fat tone and a punchy tight production...and this album delivers the goods. If you like old bands like Humble Pie, Blackfoot, Trapeze, Whitesnake (Marsden/Moody era)...check this out... chances are you'll love this...and then check out all of the artists on the Grooveyard label...one of the best labels trying to keep true vintage guitar rock alive.

The artists formerly known as HUSH N 'RUSH ... So you could start this review. The Greek Bluesrock Quartet Lets already released his disc already released in December 2015 Salvation Road with the title track and a fantastically beautiful intro.

That's nice, coherent, has enough snoting to be too complacent and pleases enough to keep the listener on the hook for all thirteen songs.

The friend of well-groomed guitar riffs has trouble suppressing the fat grin - just do not smile, because we do not want to lose our coolness when we cruise down our southern village with rolled-up windows. The good thing about this disc is that you can concentrate fully on the potholes while driving, because this is where the skip key is left unused. There is no runaway, every song gets rich from the short silence, like an alligator from the Bayou.

'I Love You Less Than Rock' n'Roll 'sing super vintage - and you believe it unseen. The love for the scary skirt creeps out of every pore of this album.

The four guys from Kavala have sent a gem of the genre to the start. In the Bluesrock area, even more so than in other disciplines, you often have to deal with swamp dwellers from countries you've never thought of before. But one likes to be taught better by Swiss and Greeks. Yes, not only the evil is always and everywhere, even the blues.
