Outstanding 4th studio disc by this excellent blues-based, hard rock band from Kavala City, Greece featuring Stavros Papadopoulos on guitar & vocals. Includes 10 songs of awesome, dynamic, soul-powered, melodic hard rock mojo with a way-kool, down home Southern Rock vibe that lands rock solid to the musical core and establishes Super Vintage as a true classic rock band that defines supreme guitar rock excellence on the essential "Destiny" disc.

Stavros Papadopoulous is an amazing, talented guitarist whose musical output lands strong, focused and prolific. A bonafide six string riff:master of the highest order who was born to rock and on "Destiny" Brother Stavros has created and produced one of his strongest musical documents to date. A tall statement due to the fact that all of the many discs he produces with his other bands, Freerock Saints, Hard Driver, and Universal Hippies, all land awesome beyond belief.

Right from the killer opener: "Rock N' Roll Saviors", a song that is dedicated to all of the good musical brothers and sisters worldwide who have shown their love and support of our music and who help us to "Keep The Rock Alive", the Super Vintage - "Destiny" disc delivers the shining hard rock truth from start to finish. Complete with the first-rate musical talents of Panagiotis Zabourlis on Slide Guitar; this SV guitar rock brother knows how to bring on the Southern Charm with his excellent slide mojo. Super Vintage also features the bad-ass "rock machine" rhythm section of Jim Moralis on Bass and last but not least: Chris Lagios on kick-ass drums who always lands a 110% solid man of rock. Super Vintage have definitely arrived to save the Southern rock n' roll day.

The Super Vintage: "Destiny" disc is a mega-awesome, blues-based, hard rock musical document that shines like the sun and lands classic, timeless & world class rock solid to the core. A modern day, legit, old-school, guitar rocker that brings us hope & faith that true "Rock N' Roll For Your Soul" is alive and well.

“I wake up with the sound of music, singing songs for pride & freedom. I've been singing for my soul, because I know that it's my call. The years go by and I hear the voices calling me to keep the flame alive. I know you call it madness, but I call it...Destiny.”

After three quick fire releases between 2015 and 2016, Super Vintage took a well earned break from the recording studio. However, with the band’s mainman, Stavros Papadopoulos, the creative guitar force behind Freerock Saints, Hard Diver and The Universal Hippies, this Big Papa has hardly been idle. In fact, if there was a worry, it was that once he teamed up again with slide guitarist Panagiotis Zabourlis, bassist Jim Moralis and drummer Chris Lagios, would there be enough left in his tank to crank up the hard hitting blues rock riffs and lead us all once again to a Southern tinged salvation?

“Rock N’ Roll Saviors” immediately answers the question, a roaring heartbeat provided by Lagios behind the kit as Papadopoulos rips out a riff that’s part challenge and part celebration. Add in a chorus that wedges deep in the mind and a loosely countrified edge and we’re off to a flier! It’s no fluke, “Brotherhood Of Blues” confirming the suspicion that if they could get themselves on the right tour and build their profile, then Super Vintage might just be huge. After all, is there anything more appealing right now than a Blackberry Smoke meets Lynyrd Skynyrd all with a touch of the blues hybrid? I don’t think so!

“Streets Of This Town” adds an authentic ZZ Top like grind, but combines it with the controlled fury of Paw, while “Down Home Tradition” offers up the image of what AC/DC might have been if they’d been sired in the American South! However, with the moods and tones consistently changing, where Destiny truly suggests that Super Vintage are primed and ready for a more mainstream breakthrough, is courtesy of the little, classy diversions this album throws up. “The Road” being a guitar infused melodic rocker that still rips and roars, but in a more refined fashion, while “Naked Tree” slows things down without ever losing the vital, sharp thrust found across everything this band do. Maybe more than ever before there’s a hint of classic era Blackfoot creeping in but it suits Super Vintage well and while you’d never confuse Stavros and the boys for Rickey Medlocke and Co, it’s also easy to imagine a banjo motif playing out under the aforementioned “Rock N’ Roll Saviors”. It’s an interesting evolution in the band’s approach, and on this multifaceted album, yet another weapon in their armoury.

The title track to Destiny closes this collection out and while a host of flavours have already been provided, this time there’s a Joe Bonamassa like lament at play, which slowly evolves into something where the crystal clear guitar tone and singing bass reminds of Led Zeppelin as they relaxedly introduced their “Stairway To Heaven”.

It would have been easy for Super Vintage to serve up another portion of exactly what they have before and while fans of this band will immediately recognise their heroes, to this Greek outfit’s great credit, they’ve also been brave enough to deliver so much more. Hopefully this is the album that truly takes them to the big time. After all, surely it’s their Destiny.

The previous Super Vintage albums I have reviewed have all been five-star material. Their first Grooveyard release, Rock’n’Roll For Your Soul from only a little more than three years ago showcased a band that already got their sound and style together, writing rock tunes with totally uncompromising attitude, around killer riffs, driven by Stavros Papadopoulos’s thunderous and uniquely fabulous guitar work and supported by rhythm section of stellar musicians. Not the slightest chance they could put a foot wrong. So much I said in my review of this ridiculously great debut album. Here was a band that played to absolute perfection! The following two albums Salvation Road (2015) and Welcome to Mojo Land (2016) I praised even more, each better than the one before. They were totally astonishing; how could a band that had reached the top of their artistic powers at such an early stage continue to better themselves and move on to even greater glory when the only move to make is downwards, after all once you are on the top the only way ahead is back down! That may be the case if you climb the solid rock that is Everest but great artists keep surpassing themselves and Super Vintage continued to impress by reaching new heights with each album.

I therefore anticipated the band’s fourth album, Destiny, with some worry. After all it is not reasonable to expect even the best of artists to continually improve and produce ever better and more exciting work. And now it has landed, here it is, the band’s latest outing. It has everything we have come to admire and love about this band: the great songwriting, Stavros’s menacingly great guitar, the bands signature sound and style … its all here. And more; once again I declare the band’s latest album better than its three predecessors (fabulously great as they are!). How can I possibly say so much? Having closely followed Stavros and his mates since before their Grooveyard days I sense in this album more confidence and tightness than before; these are artists that feel settled in their style and sound, confident and no longer seeking their place within the mosaic landscape that is Rock but sure of themselves, their music and feeling free to push the boundaries and seek new heights.

It is hard to explain how this album, great as it is, can be even greater than the band’s spectacular work on its previous releases, it simply comes together as the greatest classics created by the greatest giants of rock, a totally solid … can I say it: masterpiece? And for us, older folks, who were there when the historic landmarks were released, the Zep albums, the Deep Purple (mark 2), Ten Years After, Cream …, the Super Vintage albums add an extra thrill. The band may have its own distinctive sound and style and Stavros’s guitar is entirely his, but still you can pick up their learnings from the greats that once walked these grounds and to the trained ear of rock history their influences are instantly recognisable. Let me just give you one example. The album’s title song is a rare, quiet and beautifully crafted acoustic ballad, a song every listener will take on their own term and give their own meaning and feel to. To me this wonderful little composition oozed the feel of the mighty Zep’s Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You with a middle piece reminiscent of a Jethro Tull classic or even Genesis as they were in their prime. In other words, Super Vintage is simply the last in the long line of not too many bands and artists that have created and made rock (and rock’n’roll) what it is, a true heir of the gems created by the best and keeper of an invaluable musical tradition. I have no worries for the band’s fifth album, it will be great as all of them. But, are there any new heights to conquer?

Our favorite Greek guitarist/singer Stavros Papadopoulos is at it again! How many hours does this guy have in a day...makes me wonder?! Now it’s time for a new Super Vintage album, Stavros's heavy bluesy, 70s influenced power unit. He kicks off with southern tinged “Rock N’ Roll Saviors” and continues with a cool Bad Company vibe in “Brotherhood Of Blues”. The track ends with an extended, cool bluesy solo. “Edge of Time” continues in the southern vibe, actually combining the Brit bluesy Bad Company vibe with a touch of vintage Lynyrd Skynyrd and a cool slide guitar to top it off. “Naked Tree” keeps it up in the same vibe, while “Streets Of This Town” has a sleazy, heavy edge to it. “Everything You Wanted” picks up the southern up-tempo vibe. The album finally ends with the slow acoustic “Destiny”, a classic southern rock ballad. What can I say? Stavros hasn’t made me disappointed before, and he didn’t this time either. A great bluesy, southern rock album, from Greece of all places!

“Super Vintage gets an ‘FF’ rating on their new CD, ‘Destiny.’ It’s not what you’re thinking: FF stands for ‘familiar but fresh.’ It has the vibe of old-time, blues-based hard rock, but it simultaneously has a unique and modern feel to it. Stravos Papadopoulos — guitar player supreme — penned this material, all original, and while he shows how indebted he is to guitar gods of the past, he offers an updated, passionate rendition of their fury and chops. Aided by his super talented rhythm section and the easy to underestimate Panagiotis Zabourlis on slide guitar, these guys mean business, as they rev up their instruments like few others can. Blues-based guitar rock music at its best, you have to check these guys out.”

The Blues based rock and roll machine known as Super Vintage are back with their fourth studio release, 'Destiny', in my opinion their strongest effort to date. There is energy and diversity throughout. Comprised of, Stavros Papadopoulos on vocals and guitars, Panagiotis Zabourlis on guitars, Jim Moralis on bass and Chris Lagios on drums. Just like this band has done on their previous outings, the riffs are served up fast and furious. From the opening chords of “Rock N' Roll Saviors". Other highlights include, "Brotherhood Of The Blues ,"Streets Of This Town", "Everything You Wanted" and "The Road", the song writing has matured and the musicianship is top notch. All told, if you like no-nonsense blues based hard rock with both conviction and diversity, you can't go wrong with this album. If you are new to Super Vintage and need a place to start, there's no better time to try 'em out. This latest offering showcases everything that makes them great and why I've been a fan since day one. Talent and the essence of the music is what really counts in the end, too sad you seldom find it nowadays, except for a few exceptions, like Super Vintage.

"Destined to keep on rocking ..."

Super Vintage is a Greek four-piece rock band from Kavala, a city in North Greece on the Aegean Sea. The band was founded in 2012 under the name Hush 'N Rush and started as a 70s hard rock cover band. The frontman, singer-songwriter / guitarist and producer Stavros Papadopoulos has been writing hard rock songs, which he records in his Freerock Recording Studio. The other original band members are Panagiotis Zabourlis (guitar), Lazaros Simitsis (drums, percussion) and Panos Karathanasis (bass). In 2014, Giorgos Filopelou replaces bass player Karathanasis and in 2016 Jim Moralis observes the honeurs.

From 2013 they recorded their first album as Hush 'N Rush:' Kick Over The Traces '[2013],' Dogs 'N Vultures' [2014], 'Tales Never Told' [2014] and 'Welcome To The Slum' [ 2014]. In 2015 the band signs a contract with the American Grooveyard Records label and they change their name to Super Vintage. A new label, a new name and also two new albums: 'Rock' N Roll For Your Soul '[2015] (a Hush' N Rush compilation album) and 'Salvation Road' [2015] (their Grooveyard Records debut album).

As a successor to their third album 'Welcome To Mojo Land' [2016], a blues-influenced classic rock album with Jim Moralis as bassist and with Papoudopoulos who, as a singer-songwriter and producer, did most of the work, they have just been released 'Desiny'. The album line-up is almost the same as that of the previous album, only drummer Chris Lagios observes the drum honeurs.

The 10 new original songs, hard rock songs with Southern Rock influences, showcase Super Vintage at their best. Papadopoulous is again top as a singer and guitarist. Already from the opener "Rock N 'Roll Saviors", a song that Stravos commits to all his peers who also carry the music in their hearts and who ensure that this life remains, the trend is set and everything is right. We get an almost similar story with "Brotherhood of Blues" and then sink into "Streets Of This Town" in an even deeper trance. "Down Home Tradition" is one of the most bluesy tracks with Zabourlis' slide guitar that hypnotizes you. In the intro of "Southern Train" you hear the whistle of the train, but everything comes to speed when Lagios sets the rhythm. Then finally there is the title song "Destiny", in which Stravos summarizes everything. In your life you are destined to do something, to become something. If you do it with your heart, everyone will quickly feel why you are doing it. "I've been singing for my soul ...".

Stravos Papoudopoulos with Super Vintage is solid Greek hard rock, played with a lot of guts and knowledge. 'Destiny' is a hard rock album that does not bore but fascinates.

For me one of my favorite releases for 2018. This is the latest release by the band. If you are a fan his album won’t disappoint as it’s right up there with previous releases. Perhaps their best one yet! The main creative force behind the band is Stavros Papadopoulos Let’s just say he is the complete musical package so to speak. But he brings a great band along too. The songs all have great melody, groove and some tasty guitar licks. I have seen some more professional reviews that list the band as a southern rock band. While I hear shades of southern rock, I hear the band more in a classic rock band mojo. Straight up timeless rock at the highest quality. Too bad its 2018. Otherwise, I could seethis band on the mainstream radio. I wish I could say the band sounds like... But they have their own sound and it also sounds very familiar. So, in the end don’t hesitate to make a purchase on this one. If you buy the cd you also get the cool album artwork by Nyxian Drift. If you're not familiar with the label, Grooveyard Records, check the website out. It's an oasis for this type of bluesy heavy guitar music.
