This is some serious retro guitar instrumental rock here...these guys have that cool vintage sound of the 70's with the updated production qualities of the 00's. Great song writing and melodies as far as instrumentals go...the guitars do the singing here. Man can these guys play...and they do it with class, taste and beautiful tone...it's just so damn melodic...the twin guitar work flows together effortlessly and brings to mind classic groups like Wishbone Ash at their very best. And not taking a back seat the rhythm section grooves and is punchy as hell adding to the excellent sound quality and making the music that much better...no synthetic drum machine crap here. I always like these guys but this is by far their best CD to date...another cool release on the Grooveyard label...and a sure winner to anyone who likes serious guitar work that's not just all flash & speed but has plenty of substance.

WOW, I have heard of these guys, but never heard them. I must say I really love this album, even though it is not as such prog music. So you might ask - What is it? Tell you what, it is a superb blend of superb six stringed excursions de luxe, brothers Ryan (Jimmy and Johnny) go through every guitar genre you can imagine and then some! Imagine Wishbone Ash/Hellecasters/Thin Lizzy/Satriani well just about anything you care to name with brilliant guitars, twin leads, interplay, soaring soli, great power chords and then some!! So an instrumental album!! But a superb one mind you, I know I was kinda tired of that period not too many moons ago, when every guitar player put out instrumental albums, topped by MacAlpine, Satriani & Vai. It eventually got SO boring and tedious. But this is fresh, in your face and very finely tuned music, delivered with such enthusiasm that I actually smiled several times during my many listens to this album!! Oh, the Ryan Bros. are not alone - they have excellent back up from Bass virtuoso William Kopecky and drummer Johnny Mrozek and believe me when these four guys let go, they can whip up a storm. The contents of this album could easily be described as Beauty and the beast instrumental. So this outing will most certainly sit in my cd-player ever so often!! It really is a guitar freak's must own. GO BUY!!!

The new instrumental album by The Flyin' Ryan Brothers smokes! Satriani ain't got nothin' on these guys. From start to finish the Ryan duo ably show their chops, with bassist Kopecky and drummers Mrozek and Schindel right there with them. Well thought-out jams drawing on everyone from Jeff Beck to Wishbone Ash highlight this guitar fest, which is mostly heavy guitar rock with elements of blues and the Allman Brothers. In fact, the guitar harmonies are a special feature on this disc, but it goes much further than one might expect, showing musical sophistication and subtlety. A must have for guitar enthusiasts.

American quintet The Flyin' Ryan Brothers may sound like it, but it's by no means a circus act. But.. If you, however, would compare music to a circus, The Flyin' Ryan Brothers would be people on the trapeze, flying weightlessly back and forth through the air, doing somersaults and all types of daring tricks that make you gasp for air. This is what their music sounds like. Instrumental, guitar-driven bluesy rock with things happening all over the place, but still so graceful and with immense beauty. Harmonies to the left and right, intense drumming from the late Johnny Mrozek and outstanding bass playing from William Kopecky. I, of course, can't help comparing the band to Wishbone Ash. I love Wishbone Ash, but to be honest I don't think they have ever recorded an album as consistent as Under The Influence. There are usually a couple of tracks I don't really care for, but this one is 13 out of 13. Great melodies, really soulful and tasteful guitar playing ranging from soft melodic passages to full on bluesy shredding. Also, Wishbone Ash, besides being a vocal band, tends to become a bit too pop at times, whereas The Flyin' Ryan Brothers always spice things up a bit. This is definitely one instrumental album where I don't miss the vocals at all. No need for them whatsoever. The guitars more than well make up for them. The songs are well-written with great arrangements and they are anything but one-dimensional. There are lots of nice layers with things popping out here and there, like the effects in Loco Motive which just adds a subtle layer that doesn't meddle with the great build up and trade-offs of the guitar harmony work. This is one album that I will have a hard time getting out of my CD player!
